About this course

This course gets you ready to pass the EAS examination, including the practical assessment required by the EWRB.

Once you get your EAS registration, you'll be able to carry out maintenance, testing and supervision of work on appliances and equipment designed to connect to single-phase supply by flexible cord and plug, rated at no more than 250 volts.

Our tutors will guide you through the theory and hands-on practical work you need to get registered and start working on electrical appliances professionally.

Course requirements

This is a five-day theory and practical course (Monday to Friday).

Once you have completed this course, you will need to make a booking to sit your exam with ASPEQ. Please register with them to enrol for the exam. We will confirm with ASPEQ that you have completed the course before you will be allowed to sit the exam. You must attend 80% of the course for us to approve your exam with ASPEQ.

EAS Course prerequisites: You must be either a New Zealand citizen, a New Zealand resident or hold a current work permit to enrol on an EWRB Registration course with us. Previous electrical work experience is strongly recommended.

There are no prerequisites required for the EAS course. However, to be eligible for registration (unless exempted by the EWRB), candidates will need to demonstrate to the EWRB that they have completed 18 months of practical training/experience as an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson while holding a Trainee Limited Certificate (TLC).

Important Update: From 1 September 2026, the EAS registration class limits of work will expand to include the disconnection and reconnection of fittings to which fixed wired appliances are connected. The EASQ (Electrical Appliance Serviceperson Qualified) registration class has been merged into EAS as of 4 August 2025.

Once you have completed this course, you will need to make a booking to sit your exam with ASPEQ. Please register with them to enrol for the exam.

Your pathway to EAS licence

To get your practising Electrical Appliance Serviceperson licence, you'll need to complete this process. You can do the Competence Programme after 18 months of holding a Trainee Limited Certificate.

Start with Safety Training for Limited Certificates (TLC), which is a 2-day block course. Then, complete the EAS Course with 60 hours pre-study and a 5-day block course. After that, you'll need to book and complete your exam with ASPEQ.

Once this course has been completed, and you have sat your exam with ASPEQ, EWRB will provide you with your official results.

Next, complete the Competence Programme, which includes an EWRB e-learning module and 1-day block course.

Finally, apply for your registration and licence with the EWRB.
